Pagan Automata - European Ceramic Work Centre, 2017

Pagan Automata is a sequence of moving mechanical ceramic sculptures based on the tradition of automata: machines that operate using a system of cogs, cams, cranks and levers. The work revisits Dutch pagan mythology, exploring how their tales have altered throughout time; in particular with the arrival of Christianity. The automata's mobile nature reflects the narrative mutability of mythologies through time.
